I was interested to see the near miss John Powell Travel Coach video. My daughter lives and cycles in Golders Green in London. She finds the bus drivers fine, but the National Express buses coming off the MI and racing down Finchley Road are intimidating and drive too close to her and other cyclists. I have written to National Express and asked about the training they give their drivers and about the use of technology on their buses to detect cyclists around them. I have also written to Nick Clegg to ask him to follow up the issue. I wonder if people need to write to John Powell Coaches and ask about their training and about how much technology they use to prevent accidents to cyclists and pedestrians. I am beginning to think that cyclists should be writing to all local bus, coach and transport companies asking what their policies are, as well as perhaps offering to give an input to whatever training they offer.

Hello,
My name is Amarni Wood, I am a student at Sheffield Hallam University in my final year, studying media studies, and I am currently putting together a radio piece on whether Britain's streets are safe enough for cyclists, when it is such a healthy and economically friendly way or travelling. We are doing this story following from the three recent accidents in the news where Mark Cavendish, Bradley Wiggins, and Shane Sutton where all involved in cycling accidents with cars. I am hoping that some Cycle Sheffield will be able to either meet and do and interview with me, or do a phone interview, or even email me a statement about their thoughts on the safety of cyclists on British roads, and how cars react to cyclists.
The show is on Tuesday 27th at around 11:30am, so please get in touch as soon as possible.
You can contact me on the email provided, or alternatively on 07947202054.

If anyone reading this has any stories or opinions on the safety of our streets for cyclists, then please feel free to comment below. It would be much appreciated.

Hi, is any one interested in joining me on a ride from Sheffield to York on Friday, June 22nd to ride to the York CTC rally. I am thinking of using the route posted on this site?
http://www.cyclesheffield.org.uk/route-planning/long-distance-routes/sheffield-to-york/

I'm coming from Leeds on the train and could meet at Meadowhall where the route starts, leaving around 10 a.m from Sheffield. I will be staying in York but it's easy to get a train back from there or even camp at the CTC cycle rally which is always fun.
Would be great if anyone could make it so I don't have to ride alone.
Ursula 07745759157 - please feel free to txt or call me if you're interested or know if others are already doing this ride.
Thanks
Ursula

unfortunately there are no official cycle hire shops in Sheffield. The closest is in the Peak District at Fairholm visitors centre.

http://www.peakdistrict.gov.uk/visiting/cycle/cycle-hire-centres/derwent

But you could try and contact one of the local independent shops to see if they can source a bike for you for a few days.

Id try recycle
http://recyclebikes.co.uk/

There is also a new venture in the city called bike rehab. They may be able to source you a short term hire
http://bikerehab.co.uk/

Once again, these are not official hire centres but its just possible they may be able to help you out.

There is a longer term plan to install a Brompton dock service at Sheffield Railway station but Ive not heard any news about that.

Hi Zoe.

Im told the cycle parking at the Hillsborough bus interchange is covered by CCTV so that sounds like your best bet.
