Travelling to Nottingham in the next 5 weeks?
Nottingham Station is closed between 20 July and 25 August.
You can take your bike on replacement bus services between East Midlands Parkway and Nottingham
(East Midlands Trains to/from Norwich are stopping here) but you must book in advance
(I think by using the form at http://www.eastmidlandstrains.co.uk/information/contact-us/
or calling 08457 125 678)
Northern Rail services Leeds – Nottingham are terminating at Langley Mill and there is a bus service Alfreton – Nottingham that doesn’t take bikes AFAIK.
From Langley Mill you can have a leisurely pootle along the Cromford Canal – surface a bit rough at first but gets better – which becomes NCN67, turn off at Long Eaton for NCN6, or continue a bit further for the canal towpath which passes the station. Allow a couple of hours for this – Cyclestreets suggests 1 hour for the fastest route using A roads, 1hr 20 for its quietest route which it says is still busy.
More intrepid types could forsake the train altogether and cycle the whole way!
